World's Best Oatmeal Cookies



"I substituted walnuts for raisins in an old recipe, and came up with my husband's favorite cookies!"
Original recipe yield: 4 dozen.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Mix all ingredients at medium speed until well mixed, occasionally scraping bowl.
  2. Drop by teaspoonfuls, 1 inch apart, on sheet.
  3. Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately remove cookies to wire racks and allow to cool.
